UGC Removes PhD Requirement for Assistant Professor Recruitment

UGC notification on July 5, 2023, removes PhD requirement for Assistant Professor recruitment.

NET/SET/SLET becomes the minimum criteria for Assistant Professor appointment.

The new regulations are effective from July 1, 2023.

PhD holders are exempted from NET/SET/SLET eligibility.

Master's degree must fulfill UGC-NET/SLET/SET requirement for direct recruitment.

PhD degree holders are eligible for direct recruitment as Assistant Professors.

PhD is still required for promotion to the associate professor level.

Faculty members

Faculty members without a PhD must conduct quality research and obtain a PhD for promotion.
