Top IITs in India: Achieving a high rank in the JEE Advanced exam is a goal for many aspiring engineers. Choosing the right IIT based on that rank is crucial. This year, three Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have been identified as the preferred choices for the top-ranking students. A report from the Joint Implementation Committee (JIC) published by IIT Roorkee indicates that 97 of the top 100 All India rankers in JEE Advanced 2026 opted for IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, and IIT Madras, with IIT Bombay being the most popular choice.
IIT Bombay: The Preferred Choice for Top Rankers
Among the top 100 rankers in JEE Advanced 2026, IIT Bombay was the leading choice, attracting 68 students. In contrast, IIT Delhi and IIT Madras each welcomed 29 students. Only three students from the top 100 selected IITs outside of these three institutions.
A closer look at the top 25 rankers reveals a slight variation in preferences: eight students enrolled in both IIT Delhi and IIT Madras, while six chose IIT Bombay. This trend highlights the strong interest in these three IITs among the highest achievers.
Enrollment Statistics for IITs This Year
According to the JEE Advanced 2026 results, a total of 18,861 students secured admission to IITs this year, including 3,814 female students. This means that women represented approximately 20.2% of the total admissions, a slight increase from last year's 20.15%.
Record Number of Female Students Qualifying
The performance of female candidates in the JEE Advanced 2026 has shown notable improvement. The qualification rate for female students increased from 21.7% in 2025 to 23.4% in 2026, marking the highest qualification rate recorded over the past six years (2021-2026). This suggests that roughly one in four female candidates who registered for the exam this year successfully qualified.
