NTA Announces UGC NET Re-Exams for English, Commerce, and Sociology
Overview of UGC NET Re-Exams
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to re-administer the UGC NET exams for June 2026 in three subjects: English, Commerce, and Sociology. This decision follows the identification of factual, typographical, and translation errors in the question papers.
Reasons for Re-Examination
After the release of the answer keys for the UGC NET June 2026, discrepancies were noted in the English, Commerce, and Sociology papers. A committee was established to investigate these issues, which included misspellings of notable scholars' names, unclear book titles, and grammatical errors. The committee concluded that the flaws were significant enough to warrant a re-examination.
Re-Exam Schedule
The re-exams are scheduled for September 9 and 10, 2026. The timetable is as follows:
| Subject | Date | Time |
|---|---|---|
| English | September 9 | 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM |
| Commerce | September 9 | 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM |
| Sociology | September 10 | 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM |
Eligibility for Re-Examination
Only candidates who previously appeared for the English, Commerce, and Sociology exams are required to retake them due to the identified errors.
No Additional Fees for Candidates
The NTA has confirmed that candidates will not incur any additional fees for participating in the re-examinations for these subjects.
Application Process
Candidates do not need to submit a new application form for the re-examination, as it is exclusively for those who had already registered.
Admit Card Information
The release date for the admit cards has not yet been announced, but they are expected to be available on the official UGC NET website a few days before the exams. The previous admit cards will not be valid for the re-examination.
Exam Center Details
The NTA will provide information regarding exam centers based on candidate preferences and administrative arrangements. However, it is unclear if candidates will retain their original exam centers.
Impact on Other Subjects
The re-examination will not affect the results of the other 84 subjects, which will be declared as per the original schedule. The allocation of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) seats and eligibility certificates for Assistant Professor and PhD positions will also remain unaffected.
