CBSE Implements Digital Evaluation for Class 12 Answer Sheets

The CBSE has initiated a digital evaluation system for Class 12 answer sheets, moving away from traditional methods. This change aims to streamline the assessment process, with mandatory training for teachers on the new On-Screen Marking (OSM) portal. The Board has outlined responsibilities for school principals to ensure all educators are prepared ahead of the exams. With over 1 crore answer sheets to be evaluated digitally, this innovative approach promises to enhance efficiency and transparency in the evaluation process. The Class 10 exams will still follow traditional evaluation methods, while the Class 12 exams are scheduled from February 17 to April 10, 2026.

Introduction to Digital Evaluation

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a shift to a fully digital evaluation system for Class 12 answer sheets this academic year. This innovative approach replaces the conventional paper-based checking method with a computer-based evaluation process. To facilitate this transition, the Board has provided comprehensive guidelines to the principals of affiliated schools, emphasizing the need for prior training for teachers to mitigate any potential technical or procedural challenges during the evaluation.

Mandatory Practice on the OSM Portal

A dedicated practice link has been activated on the On-Screen Marking (OSM) portal. Principals are tasked with ensuring that teachers access the portal using their OASIS (Online Affiliated Schools Information System) IDs to complete the required practice modules. This training is compulsory to help educators become accustomed to the new digital evaluation system.

Login Credentials and Responsibilities

CBSE has distributed the OSM portal URL along with evaluators' login credentials via email to the registered addresses on the OSS portal of each school. It is now the duty of school administrators to guarantee that all teachers for grades 11 and 12 log in and finish the practice exercises ahead of the evaluation timeline. The Board will oversee this process to ensure timely completion of all tasks.

Scope of Digital Evaluation

The Board has indicated that this year, around 32 crore pages from over 1 crore Class 12 answer sheets will undergo digital evaluation. The Controller of Examinations noted that this new system will significantly cut down on both the time and expenses associated with transporting answer sheets. Furthermore, teachers will be able to conduct evaluations directly from their school's computer lab, enhancing transparency and efficiency.

Examination Timeline

The CBSE Class 10 board examinations are scheduled from February 17 to March 11, while the Class 12 exams will take place from February 17 to April 10, 2026. After the completion of these exams, the evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets will proceed digitally, whereas Class 10 answer sheets will continue to be assessed using the traditional method.
