CBSE Class 10 Board Exams: Key Details on Second Phase and Results
Overview of the Second Phase of CBSE Class 10 Exams
The second phase of the Class 10 board examinations organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) began on May 15, starting with the Mathematics paper. The Board has reported that it received more than 668,000 applications for this phase. Out of these, 525,655 students registered for the 'Improvement' category, while 85,285 students opted for the 'Compartment' category. Additionally, 57,914 students applied for both options.
Exam Schedule and Subjects
According to the official timetable, the exams for English Communicative and English Language & Literature are set for May 16. Following this, exams for various languages and elective subjects—including Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, and several foreign languages—are scheduled for May 19. On the same day, Home Science and certain vocational subjects will also be examined. Students will take exams in Sanskrit, Painting, Information Technology, and Artificial Intelligence on May 20. The second phase will conclude on May 21 with the Social Science paper.
Introduction of Two Board Examinations
CBSE has implemented a dual board examination system for Class 10 students starting from the 2026 academic year. The examination conducted in February is mandatory, while the ongoing second phase is optional. This initiative aims to help students enhance their scores or pass subjects they may have previously struggled with. Students can appear for a maximum of three subjects in this second examination. If a student achieves higher marks in this phase, those scores will be considered valid; if the marks are lower than the first examination, the initial scores will be retained.
Expected Results Release Date
The results for the second CBSE Class 10 board examination are anticipated to be announced within a month after the exams conclude. Once the results are out, students will be able to proceed with the necessary admission processes at their respective schools.
