As per the 2011 Census, Alirajpur district had a total population of 728,999, with 209,754 individuals classified as literate. This literate demographic included 120,905 men and 88,849 women.


Despite India achieving independence many years ago, disparities in education persist across the nation. While some regions boast high literacy rates, others, like Alirajpur in Madhya Pradesh, continue to struggle. The district is categorized as having low literacy, with an overall rate of just 36.10 percent according to the 2011 Census. The rural literacy rate is notably lower at 32.08 percent, compared to an urban literacy rate of 80.05 percent.


The male literacy rate in Alirajpur was recorded at 42.02 percent, while female literacy was significantly lower at 30.29 percent. This marks an improvement from the 2001 Census, where the overall literacy rate was 31.10 percent, with male literacy at 40.18 percent and female literacy at 22.01 percent.


In 2011, a staggering 92.17 percent of Alirajpur's population lived in rural areas, totaling 671,925 individuals. The literacy rate in these areas was 32.08 percent, with men achieving a rate of 37.85 percent and women at 26.45 percent.
