Uttar Pradesh's Special TET: Key Updates for Teachers and Special Educators
Clarification on Special TET Requirements
The Basic Education Department has provided important updates concerning the Special Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). According to the department, educators who have already cleared the TET or CTET will not need to retake the Special TET.
Details on Special TET for Uttar Pradesh
The Basic Education Department has outlined the specifics of the Special TET aimed at teachers and special educators in Uttar Pradesh. Those who have successfully completed the TET or CTET are exempt from taking the Special TET again. However, teachers who have not passed either exam must register and participate in the Special TET. Parth Sarthi Sen Sharma, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Basic and Secondary Education Department, has issued these directives. Following this guidance, the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission has announced the Special TET for 2026, scheduled for November 3, 2026.
Eligibility Criteria for Special TET
The Special TET is designed for primary-level teachers and special educators. This includes those teaching students in grades 1 to 5. Eligible candidates consist of teachers from Basic Education Council schools, local body schools, state government-recognized institutions, and government-aided schools. Additionally, special educators at the primary level can also participate. Teachers instructing classes 6 to 8 at the upper primary level are also invited to take the exam.
Exemption for Qualified Teachers
The Education Department has confirmed that teachers who have already passed the TET or CTET are not required to take the Special TET again. Conversely, those who have yet to pass the TET must register and apply as per the official notification for the Special TET.
Application Timeline for Special TET
The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission released the notification for the Special TET on September 3, 2026. The online application process began on September 5, with the last date for application fee submission set for October 4. Candidates will have until October 8 to make corrections to their application forms. The examination is slated for November 3, 2026.
Communication to Eligible Teachers
The Basic Education Officer has been instructed to ensure that all eligible teachers are informed about the Special TET. This initiative aims to help candidates complete their registration and application processes within the designated timeframe, clarifying eligibility criteria for special educators and other teachers.
