UPSC Releases Provisional Answer Key

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has made the provisional answer key for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) Prelims 2026 available. Candidates can now evaluate their performance by comparing their answers with the official key.

This year marks a significant shift in the UPSC Civil Services Examination process, which is often regarded as one of the most challenging competitive exams in India. For the first time, UPSC has released the answer key prior to the announcement of results, ending the long wait for numerous candidates and igniting discussions among those preparing for the exam.

Exam Participation and Initial Reactions

Over 800,000 candidates participated in the UPSC Prelims held on May 24 across the nation. Many students arrived at their respective centers with aspirations of joining esteemed services like IAS, IPS, and IFS. As is typical, unofficial answer keys from various coaching institutes began circulating on social media shortly after the exam concluded. However, the official release of the answer key by UPSC has provided significant relief to candidates.

Significant Changes in UPSC Procedures

UPSC Alters Its Procedure for the First Time

Historically, UPSC has only released the final answer key after completing both the Prelims and Mains examinations, often leaving candidates waiting for months to verify their answers. This year, however, the Commission has made a notable procedural change by issuing a provisional answer key immediately after the Prelims.

This reform is being recognized as one of the most impactful changes made by UPSC, allowing candidates to assess their performance promptly and begin preparing for the Main Examination sooner.

Opportunity for Candidates to Register Objections

Candidates Can Now Register Objections

In addition to releasing the answer key, UPSC has introduced a platform for candidates to register objections. The Commission has established a dedicated 'Question Paper Representation Portal' for this purpose. If candidates believe any answer provided is incorrect, they can submit an objection along with supporting evidence.
