Parliamentary Committee Proposes Multi-Phase NEET UG Exam Format
NEET UG Exam Recommendations
A parliamentary committee has suggested that the NEET UG examination be conducted in multiple phases, akin to the JEE format. Furthermore, it has proposed transitioning the NEET exam to a computer-based testing system.
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) currently accommodates around 20 lakh (2 million) candidates in a single day. The committee's recommendation aims to alleviate this by adopting a multi-phase, computer-based approach.
Proposals from the Parliamentary Panel
The committee has also put forth the idea of holding distinct entrance examinations for MBBS, AYUSH, and nursing programs. This change is intended to lessen the number of candidates participating in a single examination. However, sources indicate that the National Testing Agency (NTA) believes that separate exams may not be feasible since admissions are based on NEET scores.
Enhancing Transparency in NEET
The NTA has stated that the Ministry of Health will ultimately decide on the parliamentary committee's recommendations. Currently, the NTA is working on implementing the Radhakrishnan Committee's suggestions in stages to promote transparency and ensure a flawless examination process.
