Overview of the Internship: Students interested in gaining hands-on experience in the social welfare field will soon have the chance to intern at government-run facilities in Delhi that cater to the elderly and individuals with disabilities. The Social Welfare Department has unveiled comprehensive guidelines and a framework for this internship program, aimed at connecting academic learning with practical experiences and fostering an understanding of the needs of marginalized communities.


Eligibility Criteria:
This internship is available to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) students studying disciplines such as Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Nursing, Law, and Special Education. Eligible candidates must be in their second or fourth semester of study.


Types of Internships Offered:
Interns can select from two internship formats. The field-based internship involves direct interaction with residents, assisting in their care, rehabilitation, and daily activities. Alternatively, the research internship allows students to assess welfare programs and institutional services, compile case studies, and engage in research-related tasks.


Code of Conduct:
To protect the privacy and dignity of residents, a strict code of conduct has been established for interns. Unauthorized photography and videography within the institutions are prohibited. Additionally, interns must refrain from sharing any images, reports, or information regarding the institutions or their residents on social media or blogs.


Selected interns will have the chance to work at facilities like 'Asha Kiran' in Rohini, old age homes, and hostels for visually impaired students. Their responsibilities will include assisting the elderly and individuals with disabilities in daily activities, supporting counseling and recreational programs, observing behavioral changes, and aiding in record management and data collection.


This internship is offered at no cost; participants will not incur any fees. However, it is important to note that no stipend or honorarium will be provided to interns. Applications can be submitted directly or through their educational institutions, with final selections made by the Head of the Social Welfare Department. All interns must submit a report upon completing the program.
