Minister's Response to Public Outcry

The public and students are increasingly expressing their frustration regarding the CBSE's on-screen marking system. In response, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has finally broken his silence on the matter, stating that he takes full responsibility. He assured students and parents that any irregularities found in the evaluation process would not be overlooked.

What Are the Students' Complaints?

Students have been voicing numerous complaints, with their primary concerns including:

  • The scanned copies of answer sheets were quite unclear.

  • Many answers were reportedly not evaluated.

  • The CBSE portal frequently crashed.

  • There were significant difficulties in making fee payments.

  • Confusion prevailed during the re-evaluation process.

Statement from Dharmendra Pradhan

Following the influx of complaints from students, Dharmendra Pradhan held a meeting with CBSE officials in Delhi, where he stated, "I take responsibility for this. It will be rectified, and a solution will be found. We are all committed to resolving this issue." He defended the digital evaluation model, noting that out of 17 lakh students who took the exam, 98 lakh answer sheets were securely stored. According to the minister, each answer sheet contains around 40 pages, leading to a total of approximately 40 crore scanned pages. He described the on-screen marking system (OSM) as a progressive tool already adopted by many leading institutions worldwide, emphasizing that it is designed to be student-centric, ensuring transparency regarding their scores.

What Sparked the CBSE OSM Controversy?

The controversy primarily erupted when thousands of students reported technical issues in obtaining scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets.

CBSE Assures Students Not to Worry

Amid the escalating uproar, CBSE later extended the deadline for applying for scanned answer sheets. The board issued a public statement urging students not to be "worried" and assured them that all legitimate complaints would be reviewed by subject experts.
