Bihar Teachers to Receive Salaries on the First of Every Month

In a significant move, the Bihar Education Department has introduced a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that mandates all teachers to receive their salaries on the first day of each month. This change, effective from December 2025, applies to regular, Sanskrit, and Madrasa teachers, ensuring timely payments directly into their bank accounts. The process involves a structured timeline for attendance reporting and salary slip preparation, aimed at streamlining salary disbursement for all educators, including contract teachers. This initiative promises to enhance financial stability for teachers across the state.

New Salary Payment Procedure for Teachers in Bihar

Teachers in Bihar are about to experience a significant change in their salary payment schedule. According to the newly established Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) from the Education Department, all educators will now have their salaries deposited on the first day of each month. Preparations for this process will commence on the 25th of the previous month.

This SOP extends to include Sanskrit and Madrasa teachers who are funded by the state treasury. Under the new guidelines, all eligible teachers will see their salaries credited to their bank accounts on the first day of the month.

The SOP was officially released on December 8, 2025. As part of this procedure, Block Education Officers are required to submit attendance reports for regular teachers on the old pay scale to the District Education Officer between the 20th and 25th of each month. Subsequently, the District Program Officer (Establishment) will generate salary slips by the 25th and forward them to the treasury by the 26th. The treasury will then approve these slips by the 30th, ensuring that salaries are deposited into teachers' accounts on the 1st.

Communication to District Education Officers

To facilitate the effective execution of this process, the Director of Primary Education has communicated with all District Education Officers and District Program Officers. This new payment schedule applies not only to teachers but also to night watchmen. The Education Department has confirmed that all teachers whose salaries are drawn from the state treasury will receive their payments on the first of the month.

Inclusion of Contract Teachers

The SOP also encompasses contract teachers who are paid from the Samagra Shiksha fund. These teachers must submit their attendance reports between the 20th and 22nd of the month. These reports will be processed and sent to the treasury by the 26th, with approvals completed by the 30th. The District Education Office will prepare the necessary bank advice between the 26th and 29th, finalizing it for submission to the bank on the 30th. This streamlined process guarantees that all government employees and those receiving treasury salaries will be paid on the first day of each month.
