Uttarakhand Government Offers Free Bus Travel for NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam Candidates
Free Transportation Initiative for Students
The Uttarakhand government has introduced a new initiative allowing students who are permanent residents and are taking the NEET UG 2026 re-exam to travel at no cost on State Transport Corporation buses.
This decision aims to ease the burden on students preparing for the NEET UG re-exam, which is set for June 21. The government has outlined the process for utilizing this free travel service.
How to Access Free Bus Travel
Students can travel for free on ordinary-class State Transport Corporation buses by simply presenting their admit cards. This service will be available starting two days before the exam and will continue until the exam day.
Moreover, students can also benefit from this free travel when returning home from the exam center for up to two days post-exam. This initiative is particularly beneficial for students from remote areas who often face long journeys to reach their exam locations.
Background on NEET Controversy
The NEET UG exam earlier this year faced significant issues, including allegations of paper leaks and other irregularities, leading to its cancellation. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has scheduled a re-exam for June 21, which is currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Similar Initiatives in Other States
Uttarakhand is not alone in this effort; other states have also implemented measures to support NEET UG re-exam candidates. For instance, the Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, announced free travel on Delhi Transport Corporation buses for exam day.
Additionally, the Odisha government, under Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has also decided to offer free bus services for NEET candidates. The Punjab government has introduced a similar initiative, allowing students to travel for free on buses operated by the Punjab State Bus Stand Management Company Limited and PEPSU Road Transport Corporation from June 20 to June 22, provided they show their admit cards.
