Major Honorarium Boost for Shiksha Mitras and Instructors

In a significant development for Shiksha Mitras and instructors in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a substantial increase in their honorarium. Effective immediately, Shiksha Mitras will now earn ₹18,000 per month, while instructors will receive ₹17,000. Previously, both groups were compensated with only ₹10,000, making this adjustment a crucial relief amid rising inflation. This decision is expected to benefit approximately 1.70 lakh individuals directly.

Honorarium Adjustment After Nearly a Decade

CM Yogi emphasized that this decision reflects the government's commitment to supporting Shiksha Mitras and instructors. The last adjustment occurred in 2017 when the honorarium was raised from ₹3,000 to ₹10,000. The recent increase of ₹8,000 marks a significant step forward. Additionally, Shiksha Mitras and their families will now have access to cashless medical treatment up to ₹5 lakh. The government is also considering the implementation of a transfer system. Anil Yadav, President of the Uttar Pradesh BTC Teachers' Association, expressed gratitude for this decision, noting that while their initial demand was ₹30,000, the current increase is a welcome relief.

The Challenging Journey of Shiksha Mitras

The path for Shiksha Mitras has been fraught with challenges. Initially, in 2001, they received a modest honorarium of ₹1,500, which gradually increased to ₹3,000. In 2014, the Samajwadi Party government elevated their status to assistant teachers, allowing them to earn around ₹43,000. However, this adjustment was reversed in 2017 following a Supreme Court ruling, reverting them back to their original Shiksha Mitra status. That same year, the Yogi government set their honorarium at ₹10,000, which has now been raised to ₹18,000. This long-awaited increase is seen as a significant relief for them.
