The government of Uttar Pradesh has announced significant changes regarding school operations statewide. In light of the ongoing Kanwar Yatra, schools will close early at 12:15 PM on Monday, marking a half-day for students.


This decision is part of the government's efforts to manage the influx of pilgrims during the Kanwar Yatra, which has led to increased traffic and congestion across the state. As a result, schools will not conduct regular classes and will dismiss students early to ensure their safety and convenience.


Half-Day Schedule for Schools


According to the latest directive, schools will cease operations at 12:15 PM on Monday. This adjustment aims to accommodate the large number of devotees traveling for the pilgrimage, allowing families to navigate the heightened traffic conditions more easily.


Extended Closure for Educational Institutions


In addition to the early closure on Monday, a prior order remains in effect, mandating that schools, colleges, and technical institutions remain closed from August 4 to August 12. This directive applies to both public and private educational establishments, affecting students from Nursery to Class 12. Schools under various educational boards, including the Basic Education Council, Secondary Education Council, CBSE, ICSE, and Madrasa Boards, are included in this closure.


Despite the holiday, institutions with pre-scheduled examinations are permitted to proceed with them as planned, ensuring that the examination schedule is not disrupted.


Districts Affected by Closure Orders


Several districts, including Muzaffarnagar, Ghaziabad, and Meerut, have already implemented these closure orders due to the Kanwar Yatra. The government is actively monitoring the situation and may issue additional directives if necessary. The month of Shravan commenced on July 30, 2026, with Shravan Shivratri occurring on August 11, prompting these measures to ensure public safety and manage traffic effectively during this busy period.
