New Night Shift Guidelines for Women in Uttar Pradesh

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced significant changes to the regulations governing women's employment during night shifts. Previously, many women were restricted to daytime work only. However, the new guidelines now permit women to work from 7 PM to 6 AM.

To ensure safety, specific security measures have been mandated for companies employing women during these hours. Here’s a detailed overview of the requirements and benefits for women working night shifts in Uttar Pradesh.

Written Consent is Mandatory

Under the new regulations, women are permitted to work night shifts, but they must provide written consent. Companies cannot compel women to work at night without this consent, making it a crucial rule for night shift employment.

Facilities Provided for Night Shift Workers

Companies are required to offer various facilities to women working night shifts. This includes safe transportation options, such as company cabs or other vehicles. Additionally, workplaces must be equipped with CCTV cameras to monitor activities. Other provisions include security personnel, medical emergency support, and health facilities, ensuring that safety is prioritized.

Changes to Overtime Regulations

The new guidelines also increase the overtime limit for women. Previously capped at 75 hours per quarter, the limit has now been raised to 144 hours. This change allows for greater earning potential, including double pay for overtime hours. To enhance security, systems like the 1090 Women Power Line, 112 Helpline, and the Safe City Project are also in place.

Expanded Employment Opportunities

The revised order allows women to work night shifts across nearly all industrial sectors. Previously restricted to 12 types of businesses, this has now expanded to 29 sectors. This change is not limited to IT or service industries but includes areas previously deemed hazardous. Following presidential approval, this order opens new employment avenues for women.
