Uttar Pradesh Governor Mandates Student Uniforms and Educational Reforms
Mandatory Uniforms for Students
Anandiben Patel, the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, has announced that students in all universities and colleges within the state must wear uniforms. This decision was made during a meeting at Jan Bhawan last Wednesday. The directive extends to all government and aided colleges affiliated with Jananayak Chandrashekhar University in Ballia. UP Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna expressed his support for the Governor's initiative, highlighting that these disciplinary measures are beneficial for students.
Focus on Teacher Conduct and Student Development
The Governor has also emphasized the importance of teacher professionalism, instructing that no educator should act in a manner that could undermine the dignity of their role. She highlighted the necessity for student development and urged teachers to be punctual and ensure students attend classes regularly. Additionally, Anandiben Patel called for improvements in women's hostel conditions, ensuring they are free from negative influences.
Introduction of Vocational Courses
To empower female students, the Governor proposed the introduction of vocational and skill-based courses aimed at enhancing employability. Suggested courses include beautician training, Mehendi art, GST, Bindi manufacturing, accountancy, and millet-based food preparation. She also advocated for the promotion of organic farming, encouraging students to practice it on their own land for supplementary income.
Empowering Students with Subject Choices
Anandiben Patel instructed educational institutions to allow students the freedom to select their subjects, promoting a multidisciplinary approach to learning. She emphasized that, alongside core subjects, students should gain knowledge in areas like Yoga, painting, and other skills to boost their employability. For colleges facing teacher shortages, she recommended establishing online teaching options and collaborating with other institutions. Furthermore, she urged officials to expedite the filling of vacant teaching positions and to conduct regular training sessions for educators.
Research and Resource Accessibility
The Governor mandated that clean drinking water be provided immediately at all Anganwadi centers, primary schools, PHCs, CHCs, health centers, and colleges where shortages exist. She also encouraged colleges to utilize the ‘INFLIBNET’ and ‘One Nation, One Subscription’ initiatives to improve access to national and international academic resources. Additionally, she directed teachers to publish at least two book chapters or research papers each year to foster a culture of research and academic writing in higher education.
