Exciting Initiative for Female Students in Uttar Pradesh

In a significant move, the Uttar Pradesh government is set to offer free scooters to outstanding female students enrolled in universities and degree colleges. This initiative aims to reward academic excellence, ensuring that even those in courses with fewer enrollments are included. If the top five percent of students in a low-enrollment course results in less than one individual, at least one deserving female student will still receive a scooter.

The Higher Education Department is currently gathering academic records from all institutions to facilitate this program.

Eligibility Criteria for the Scheme

**Selection of Top Performers**

The scheme targets female students who have excelled academically in various courses. The department is collecting information on those who have graduated with over 80 percent marks in the 2025-26 academic year. Additionally, data is being compiled for second-year female students who have achieved more than 80 percent or a CGPA exceeding 8.

Furthermore, the department is also interested in female students who have scored 85 percent or higher, or have a CGPA of 8.5 or above, to create a list of meritorious candidates.

Inclusivity for Low Enrollment Courses

**Support for Underrepresented Courses**

Certain programs, such as Bachelor of Vocational Studies and Fine Arts, have low student enrollment. In cases where the top five percent may yield fewer than one student, the government plans to ensure that at least one female student is awarded a scooter.

The Higher Education Department will validate the data received from educational institutions, with efforts already underway to upload results to the portal and test the system.

Projected Impact of the Initiative

**First Phase Projections**

The initiative is backed by a budget of approximately ₹400 crore, with an expectation that around 50,000 meritorious female students will receive scooters in the first phase. Should the demand arise, the government is open to increasing the budget to extend the benefits to additional students.
