New Delhi: The US Embassy in India issued a warning on Wednesday regarding the serious repercussions of breaking American laws, particularly for those holding student visas. The embassy emphasized that being in the US is a privilege rather than an entitlement.


In a message shared on X, the embassy cautioned that any legal violations or arrests could lead to ineligibility for future US visas.


"Violating U.S. laws can have significant consequences for your student visa. If you are arrested or break any laws, your visa may be canceled, you could face deportation, and you might become ineligible for future U.S. visas. Adhere to the regulations and safeguard your travel plans," the embassy stated.


The embassy reiterated its stance, stating, "A US visa is a privilege, not a right," a message it has communicated multiple times on X over recent months.


On June 19, the embassy reiterated, "A US visa is a privilege, not a right. Visa screening continues even after issuance, and we reserve the right to revoke your visa if you violate the law."


Furthermore, on June 23, the US Embassy advised applicants for F, M, or J non-immigrant visas to set their social media accounts to 'public' for verification purposes, which is essential for confirming their identity and eligibility for entry into the US.
