UPSC Introduces Face Authentication for Recruitment Exams
UPSC's New Initiative for Enhanced Exam Security
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced a significant measure to enhance the transparency and security of its recruitment examinations. Moving forward, all candidates will undergo facial authentication during the exams. This means that upon arriving at the examination center, a candidate's identity will be verified using facial recognition technology.
Increased Security in Examination Process
According to UPSC officials, this initiative aims to bolster the credibility of the examination system. A notice released on the commission's website states that every candidate must complete the facial authentication process at the examination center. This will help prevent issues such as impersonation, identity fraud, and cheating.
Examinations Conducted by UPSC
UPSC conducts some of the most prestigious examinations in the country, including the Civil Services Examination, which selects top administrative officials like IAS, IFS, and IPS officers. Additionally, it also oversees recruitment exams for NDA, CDS, and other central services.
Successful Pilot Project Implemented
Before implementing this new system, UPSC conducted a pilot project. In September 2025, facial authentication was tested at several examination centers in Gurugram during the NDA-II, NA-II, and CDS-II exams.
AI Technology for Facial Matching
The pilot utilized artificial intelligence (AI) technology to match candidates' live facial images with the photographs submitted in their application forms. This allowed for rapid and accurate identity verification.
Quick Verification Process
According to UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar, this new technology enables the verification of each candidate in an average of just 8 to 10 seconds. This has significantly reduced long queues at examination centers and streamlined the entry process.
Full Implementation Planned for Future Exams
UPSC plans to implement the facial authentication system across all recruitment examinations. The commission believes this will maintain the integrity of the exams and ensure a more reliable selection of qualified candidates.
