Changes in Eligibility for TGT and PGT Positions

The Uttar Pradesh government has revised the eligibility requirements for Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) and Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) in aided secondary schools. This update is crucial for those aspiring to teach in these roles.

A recent report highlights that biology has been reinstated as a subject for TGT recruitment, along with modifications to the eligibility criteria for certain PGT positions. Special Secretary Krishna Kumar Gupta confirmed that biology will now be a subject for TGT recruitment across 4,512 aided secondary schools in the state.

Candidates holding a graduation degree in biological sciences, particularly in Zoology or Botany, along with a B.Ed degree, are now eligible to apply for TGT Biology roles. This change opens doors for biology graduates who were previously ineligible. The new criteria will establish subject-specific eligibility for TGT recruitment across 26 subjects at the current level and 42 subjects at the previous level.

Eligibility Updates for PGT Geography and Civics

The government has also tightened the eligibility standards for certain PGT roles. For the PGT Geography position, a postgraduate degree specifically in Geography is now required. Similarly, candidates applying for civics lecturer roles must possess a PG degree in political science. Aside from the updates regarding Biology, Geography, and Civics, the eligibility criteria for other teaching subjects remain unchanged.

Separate Categories for Science and Biology Teachers

There will now be distinct categories for science teachers and biology teachers at the high school level, each with its own eligibility criteria. These new guidelines replace the previous order issued on April 22. The updated eligibility criteria, effective from September 9, have been communicated to all relevant officials, including the Director of Secondary Education and the Chairman of the Secondary Education Council.
