The entry-level basic salary for an IPS officer is ₹56,100 per month, as per the 7th Central Pay Commission. New officers typically start their careers as Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) or Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP). However, this basic pay is just the starting point; officers also receive additional allowances such as Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), travel allowances, and various other perks, which significantly enhance their total take-home pay.

Initially, a DSP earns around ₹56,100 monthly, which rises to approximately ₹67,700 upon promotion to Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) and further to ₹78,800 as a Superintendent of Police (SP). The salary continues to escalate with higher ranks: a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) earns about ₹131,000, an Inspector General (IG) receives ₹144,200, an Additional Director General (ADG) earns ₹205,000, and the Director General of Police (DGP) can earn around ₹225,000 per month. Thus, with promotions, an IPS officer's earnings can exceed two lakh rupees.


Benefits of Being an IPS Officer

Depending on their assignments, they are provided with government housing or bungalows, typically situated in secure and well-maintained areas.
