Overview of CA Course Expenses

Many aspiring Chartered Accountants (CAs) often wonder about the total expenses involved in their journey after completing Class 12. Key questions include whether they only need to pay the institute's fees or if there are additional costs for exams and coaching. To clarify these points, we consulted CA Abhishek Mishra from Patna.

Starting with the Foundation Course

Students begin their CA journey at the Foundation level post-Class 12. The registration fee for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) at this stage is approximately ₹10,000. Additionally, students must pay a separate fee for the exam form during the examination period. While coaching is not mandatory for Foundation preparation, students can choose to attend classes offered by the institute or seek private coaching based on their preferences and budget.

It's important to note that coaching fees can vary significantly. Online and offline classes may have different pricing, and costs can differ based on whether the coaching is in a major city or a smaller town.

Intermediate Level Costs

Upon passing the Foundation exam, students register for the CA Intermediate course, which consists of two groups. The registration fee for both groups is around ₹20,000, with an additional exam fee required when taking the exam.

Similar to the Foundation level, coaching costs at the Intermediate level depend on the student's choice. Classes from the institute may be more affordable compared to private coaching, which can vary based on the mode of instruction.

Final Level Fees

The final stage of the CA course, known as the 'Final' level, also comprises two groups. The registration fee for both groups is approximately ₹25,000, and students must pay a separate examination fee when submitting their exam forms. Students can choose between the institute's classes or private coaching for their preparation.

Additional Costs Beyond Registration Fees

The expenses associated with pursuing a CA go beyond just the registration fees for the three levels. Students are also required to participate in mandatory training programs at various stages, which may include computer courses and other compulsory training sessions. These programs come with their own fees, which must be factored into the overall cost of the CA course.

Estimating Total Costs

If students primarily utilize the resources provided by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and avoid costly external coaching, the total cost of the CA course can be around ₹2 lakh. However, this is an estimate; opting for private coaching can significantly increase expenses, potentially doubling the total cost.

The final expenses will depend on various factors, including the mode of study (online vs. offline), the city, the choice of subjects or group coaching, and the facilities selected by the student. Therefore, it is crucial for students to prepare a comprehensive budget that includes not only the registration fees but also examination fees, mandatory training, and coaching costs.
