Warning on Fake Degrees

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a significant alert concerning three institutions that are unlawfully distributing degrees without proper accreditation. This warning is directed at students, parents, and employers alike.

The UGC has reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of higher education in India. It has identified three institutions that falsely claim to be universities and are issuing degrees that lack legal recognition. Degrees from these institutions will not be valid for further education or employment in both government and private sectors.

Each year, numerous students fall victim to these misleading institutions, which often incorporate the term 'University' in their names. Unfortunately, many discover the invalidity of their degrees only when they seek jobs or further studies. To safeguard students, the UGC regularly publishes a list of such fraudulent universities.

The institutions flagged by the UGC include the National Institute of Management Solution (NIMS) in Delhi, Sarva Bharatiya Shiksha Peeth in Karnataka, and National Backward Krishi Vidyapeeth in Maharashtra. None of these institutions possess the authority to confer degrees, yet they continue to do so illegally. The UGC has made it clear that degrees obtained from these institutions will not be recognized in India, urging students to exercise caution.

Monitoring Fake Universities

This warning is part of the UGC's ongoing efforts to monitor and combat the proliferation of fake universities. These institutions operate without recognition under the UGC Act of 1956, misleading students into believing they are legitimate.

For any institution to legally award degrees in India, it must be recognized under Section 2(f) or designated as a Deemed University under Section 3 of the UGC Act. Institutions lacking this recognition are not authorized to issue degrees.

The UGC has specifically highlighted the National Institute of Management Solutions (NIMS) in Delhi, which is not recognized under the relevant sections of the UGC Act. Despite this, NIMS continues to issue degrees for various courses.

Sarva Bharatiya Shiksha Peeth in Karnataka

The second institution, Sarva Bharatiya Shiksha Peeth, is situated in the Vijayanagar area of Tumkur district, Karnataka. The UGC has indicated that this institution is also in violation of regulations, lacking recognition from the UGC and permission from AICTE or any other statutory authority.

National Backward Krishi Vidyapeeth in Maharashtra

Lastly, the National Backward Krishi Vidyapeeth, located in Tadwal village, Solapur district, Maharashtra, is also issuing degrees without legal authorization. This institution is neither recognized by the UGC nor by AICTE, meaning degrees obtained here will not be accepted by any educational institution or for employment.
