Ankush Sachdeva's Unique Path

When people think of IIT Kanpur, they often envision high salaries and prestigious job offers. However, Ankush Sachdeva's story diverges from this narrative. While his peers were securing lucrative positions, Ankush was grappling with a series of unsuccessful startup ventures.

Seventeen Attempts at Success

After completing his studies in computer science, Ankush opted for the startup route instead of traditional employment. This decision was fraught with challenges, as he faced failure with each of his 17 startup ideas. From educational platforms to local service apps and social experiments, he poured his effort into each venture but did not achieve the desired success. Observers often viewed his persistence as misguided, yet Ankush regarded each setback as a valuable lesson.

Identifying the Real Opportunity

After years of trial and error, Ankush realized where the true opportunity lay. A significant portion of India's population prefers using the internet in their native languages rather than English. In smaller towns and rural areas, people desired social media platforms that resonated with their language and culture, which were largely absent.

The Birth of ShareChat

In 2015, Ankush, along with his IIT Kanpur friends Farid Ahsan and Bhanu Singh, launched ShareChat. This social media platform was designed specifically for Indian languages, starting with Hindi and gradually expanding to include over 15 languages, such as Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, and Malayalam.

Connecting Rural and Urban India

ShareChat provided a voice to those who had previously been overlooked in the digital landscape. It became a digital hub for farmers, homemakers, small shopkeepers, and local creators, rapidly attracting millions of users.

Valuation Soars to 40,000 Crores

By 2021, ShareChat boasted over 160 million active users. Following this growth, the company's valuation skyrocketed, reaching approximately 40,000 crores in 2022. Ankush Sachdeva's journey illustrates that failure is not the end. With the right mindset, patience, and a commitment to learning, setbacks can transform into significant strengths.
