The next significant challenge in Sushmita's life arose during her first year of college when her family arranged her marriage at the age of 18. She opposed this decision and requested three to four years to focus on her education. This choice led to pressure and criticism from relatives, who questioned why a girl should be allowed to delay marriage for a job. Nevertheless, she prioritized her goals.
Balancing Studies Amidst Household Responsibilities
Sushmita faced scrutiny from visitors who questioned her mother about why she wasn't learning household chores. However, her focus remained on preparing for competitive exams. After college, she dedicated herself to SSC preparation, aiming to study for 8 to 10 hours daily. Despite the negative comments from those around her, she stayed committed to her decision.
Overcoming Health Challenges After Initial Setback
In 2019, Sushmita received her first exam results but did not qualify, which was disheartening. Instead of giving up, she decided to try again. During her second attempt, she faced a health crisis with kidney stones that required surgery just a month before the exam. Even while hospitalized, she continued her studies with the help of her brother, maintaining her determination despite the pressures of illness and exams.
Achieving Her Goal in the Second Attempt
Her relentless efforts bore fruit in her second attempt when Sushmita successfully passed the SSC CGL exam, securing a position as an Assistant Section Officer in the Central Secretariat Services.
