Summer Vacation 2026 Schedule Across Indian States
Overview of Summer Vacations in 2026
Summer Vacation 2026 Schedule (India): The ongoing heatwave continues to affect numerous regions in India, raising concerns for students and their families. Although recent light rains and changing weather patterns have provided some temporary relief in certain northern states, the overall situation remains challenging. In response to the Meteorological Department's predictions and increasing temperatures, various state governments have officially released their summer vacation dates for schools.
Changes in School Timings
In several states, school hours have been adjusted to morning sessions. Students in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Rajasthan are eagerly anticipating their summer breaks. While some states have already begun their holidays, others are set to close schools starting next week. Parents are also planning family outings and visits to relatives in preparation for the summer vacation.
Summer Vacation Dates by State
Delhi: Extended 50-Day Break
The temperature in the national capital has been steadily rising, with readings exceeding 40 degrees Celsius towards the end of April. Despite a slight drop in temperature recently, conditions can change rapidly. The Directorate of Education has declared that summer vacations for Delhi schools will take place from May 11 to June 30, 2026, allowing students a generous 50-day break. Schools will resume on July 1, 2026.
Uttar Pradesh: Holidays Start May 20
As per the UP Basic Education Council's academic calendar, government schools will be closed from May 20 to June 15. Private institutions typically begin their holidays around May 15 or May 20. However, if temperatures soar, vacations may start earlier, with District Magistrates having the authority to adjust dates based on local weather conditions.
Rajasthan: Escape from the Heat
According to the Rajasthan Education Department's official calendar, schools will be closed from May 17 to June 20, 2026. Due to extreme heat, school hours have already been modified in several districts. As is customary, the vacation period may be extended beyond June 20, depending on the weather.
Bihar and Haryana: June Holidays
Bihar's Education Department has scheduled summer holidays from June 1 to June 20, 2026. In Haryana, schools are expected to close from June 1 to June 30. In both states, holiday extensions may be issued based on weather conditions.
Updates for West Bengal and Punjab
The West Bengal government has initiated summer holidays across all districts, except for hilly areas like Darjeeling and Kalimpong, due to the severe heat. Similarly, Punjab has declared holidays in phases throughout May and June.
Note: It is advisable to stay in touch with teachers for precise summer vacation dates, as schedules can vary by district or school.
