SBI's Recruitment Plans

The State Bank of India (SBI), the largest bank in the nation, is set to recruit approximately 3,500 officers to bolster its operations and enhance service delivery nationwide. In an interview, Kishore Kumar Poludasu, SBI's Deputy Managing Director (Human Resources) and Chief Development Officer (CDO), revealed that the bank had previously hired 505 Probationary Officers (POs) in June and is currently working to fill an equivalent number of vacancies.

On the topic of Specialist Officer recruitment, Poludasu noted that around 1,300 officers have been appointed to focus on IT and cybersecurity roles. Furthermore, advertisements have been released for 541 PO positions, with applications already submitted. The recruitment process for POs involves three stages: a preliminary exam, a main examination, and a psychometric test followed by an interview. He also mentioned that the recruitment of about 3,000 circle-based officers is under consideration, with plans to complete this process within the current financial year.

Chairman's Announcement on Recruitment

SBI Chairman C.S. Shetty's Recruitment Goals

Earlier this year, C.S. Shetty, the Chairman of SBI, announced a total recruitment target of around 18,000 positions across various categories within the bank. This includes approximately 13,500 clerical roles, with the remainder allocated to probationary officers and locally based officers.

In the first quarter, SBI revealed plans to recruit 13,455 junior associates and 505 POs to enhance customer service at its branches nationwide. Poludasu also highlighted the bank's strategy to promote gender diversity, aiming to increase the female workforce to 30% within the next five years.

Commitment to Gender Diversity

Poludasu stated, "Currently, women make up about 33% of frontline employees, but overall, they represent 27% of the total workforce. We aim to improve this percentage to enhance diversity." The bank is actively working to close this gap and achieve its medium-term goal of having 30% women in its workforce.

SBI employs over 240,000 individuals, making it the largest employer in the banking sector and across all organizations in the country.

The bank is dedicated to fostering a workplace where women can excel at all levels. Through targeted initiatives, SBI promotes leadership, work-life balance, and respect in the workplace. Poludasu mentioned several women-centric measures, including crèche allowances for working mothers, family outreach programs, and training for female employees returning from maternity leave or extended sick leave.

Empower Her Initiative

Additionally, the 'Empower Her' initiative is a flagship program designed to identify, mentor, and develop women for leadership roles through structured leadership labs and coaching sessions. This initiative aims to increase the representation of women in leadership positions and create a robust pipeline of future female executives.
