St. Stephen's College, part of Delhi University, has introduced a dress code for its students as the new academic year begins. The college has prohibited the wearing of shorts in various areas, including classrooms, laboratories, the chapel, the assembly hall, the library, and the dining hall.


In addition to the dress code, the administration has emphasized the importance of maintaining a smoke-free environment, ensuring cleanliness, and the necessity of carrying student ID cards. Principal Prof. Susen Elias has made it clear that adherence to these guidelines is mandatory.

Students have expressed their discontent regarding the new dress code, claiming it infringes on their personal clothing choices. Some have labeled the policy as a form of 'moral policing,' while others are concerned about its impact on athletes who usually wear shorts for training. Vinod Jakhar, the National President of NSUI, has criticized the college's decision, calling it an infringement on students' personal freedoms and constitutional rights.
