The SAIL Rourkela Steel Plant has released a notification for the recruitment of apprentices for the 2026-27 period, aiming to fill a total of 1,110 positions. This recruitment includes 421 Trade Apprentices, 414 Diploma (Technician) Apprentices, and 275 Graduate Apprentices. Notably, there will be no written examination; candidates will be selected based on a merit list derived from their academic qualifications, followed by document verification.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must have completed the relevant course (ITI, Engineering Diploma, or Degree) from a recognized institution through regular study. Eligibility is restricted to those who graduated in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, or 2026. Specific requirements include:
- Trade Apprentices: ITI qualification in the relevant trade
- Diploma Apprentices: Diploma in the relevant engineering branch
- Graduate Apprentices: Graduate degree in a relevant engineering or non-engineering subject
Candidates who have previously completed an apprenticeship or are currently undergoing one, as well as those with one year or more of work experience, are not eligible to apply.
Application Process and Important Dates
The online application process commenced on July 17 and will remain open until August 26, 2026. Applications for Trade Apprentices should be submitted via the NAPS portal, while Graduate and Diploma Apprentices must apply through the NATS portal. The age limit for applicants is set between 18 and 28 years as of August 31, 2026, with age relaxation available for candidates from reserved categories.
Selection Process
The selection will not involve a written examination. Instead, candidates will be evaluated based on their academic performance, with a merit list created using the following weightage:
- 30% from Class 10 marks
- 70% from the relevant ITI, diploma, or degree examination marks
Candidates who make it to the merit list will be invited to Rourkela for document verification, and final selections will depend on this verification and the number of available vacancies.
