Odisha's Medical Education Boost: 62 New PG Seats Approved for 2025-26
Significant Expansion in Medical Education
Bhubaneswar: On Friday, Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that the central government has sanctioned 62 additional postgraduate (PG) seats across six state-operated medical colleges and hospitals for the academic year 2025-26.
Majhi emphasized that this approval marks a crucial step towards enhancing the medical education framework and healthcare facilities in western Odisha.
In his correspondence with Union Health Minister J P Nadda, Majhi expressed his sincere appreciation for the approval of these PG seats, stating, "I extend my heartfelt gratitude to you and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for the gracious approval of 62 PG seats in six government medical colleges and hospitals in Odisha for the academic year 2025-26."
He further noted that the increase in PG seats will not only elevate the standards of medical education but also enhance specialized healthcare services for the local population.
Majhi reassured that the state government is dedicated to adhering to the guidelines set by the National Medical Commission and will provide all necessary assistance to transform these institutions into leading centers of medical excellence.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan shared on X that the distribution of the new seats includes 15 at VIMSAR-Burla, 3 at SCB Medical College in Cuttack, 6 at PGIMER & Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, 20 at PRM Medical College and Hospital in Baripada, 8 at FM Medical College and Hospital in Balasore, and 10 at Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Bolangir.
