Major Educational Developments in Odisha


In a significant move for educational advancement, Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced plans to establish four new universities in the districts of Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Jharsuguda, and Jagatsinghpur during the presentation of the 2026-27 annual Budget in the state Assembly.


Additionally, the Chief Minister, who also oversees the Finance portfolio, revealed intentions to create two new government engineering colleges located in Paradip and Bolangir, aimed at enhancing the state's technical education framework.


Majhi highlighted the development of seven new World Skill Centres, with a goal to complete five of them by 2036, as part of a broader initiative. A budget allocation of Rs 278 crore has been designated for this project.


The overall Budget for the year 2026-27 is set at Rs 3.10 lakh crore.


The Budget session commenced on February 17 and is scheduled to run until April 8, with a break from February 25 to March 8. General discussions regarding the Budget will take place on February 23 and 24, while the Appropriation Bill is expected to be presented on March 31.


Following the recess, reports from the departmentally related standing committees will be submitted to the House on March 9.
