Odisha Government to Recruit 45,000 Teachers Over Three Years

On Teachers' Day, Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi revealed plans to hire teachers for 45,000 vacant positions within the next three years. Speaking to students at an event at the Secondary Board High School in Cuttack, he encouraged them to prioritize their education over time spent on social media.

Emphasizing the Importance of Education

Majhi highlighted, "The state government is committed to filling 45,000 teacher vacancies in schools across Odisha over the next three years." He emphasized that education goes beyond just sharing knowledge; it plays a crucial role in shaping personalities and enhancing lives. Paying homage to former President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his birthday, he noted that the *Guru-Shishya* (teacher-disciple) tradition is a significant aspect of Indian culture.

He pointed out that historical figures like Lord Ram, Lord Krishna, Emperor Chandragupta Maurya, and Swami Vivekananda were guided by their gurus, illustrating the vital role of teachers.

Advice for Students

The Chief Minister remarked, "Even in contemporary times, a notable figure like 'Missile Man' AP.J. Abdul Kalam, despite his prestigious position, identified himself primarily as a teacher."

During his address to students, Majhi, who previously worked as a teacher, urged them to concentrate on their studies and avoid distractions. He advised, "Do not spend too much time on social media; instead, focus on your career development."

He added, "As students, your main duty is to excel academically and contribute to both your personal growth and the nation's progress. This is the fundamental aim of our education system."

Commitment to Educational Reforms

Majhi reiterated his government's dedication to implementing extensive reforms in the education sector, stating that Odisha is the first state in India to introduce a 'KG to PG' free education initiative. He mentioned that 2,200 state-of-the-art 'Godabarish Mishra Adarsha Primary Schools' are being built at an investment of ₹12,000 crore, along with the establishment of 45,000 nursery schools for preschoolers.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to providing mid-day meals and textbooks for students in grades 9 and 10, as well as the 'Shaheed Madho Singh Hath Kharcha Yojana' aimed at reducing dropout rates among tribal children. On this occasion, he also recognized the contributions of several teachers.
