New Regulations for Private Schools in Delhi: Fee Payment and Purchases
New Directives for Private Schools in Delhi
Private unaided educational institutions in Delhi have received explicit instructions prohibiting them from requiring parents to pay fees for more than one month at a time. Previously, many schools pressured parents to settle fees for two or three months in advance, which created financial strain, especially for families with limited income. This practice has now been entirely banned due to numerous complaints regarding the undue financial burden placed on families.
**Relief for Parents**
The government has made it clear that while parents can choose to pay fees for several months at once, schools cannot mandate this practice. Additionally, a student's education, admission, or access to school facilities cannot be denied due to late fee payments or refusal to pay multiple months' fees in advance.
**Freedom to Choose Vendors for Supplies**
In another important decision, Rekha Gupta announced that parents now have the liberty to buy their children's books, uniforms, and stationery from any vendor they prefer. Schools can no longer force parents to purchase these items from a specific store or the school's own shop. This change allows parents to seek more affordable options, easing their financial load.
**Enforcement of New Regulations**
The government has instructed all schools to post these new regulations on their notice boards and websites within a week. Schools that fail to comply will face strict penalties.
**Government's Firm Position**
The Chief Minister has issued a strong warning against any arbitrary actions by schools, emphasizing that such behavior will not be tolerated. The government retains the authority to conduct surprise inspections at any time. This initiative aims to provide essential relief to parents and enhance transparency in the education sector.
