New Recruitment Process for Station Masters by RRB Starting 2026

The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) is set to introduce a new recruitment process for Station Masters starting in 2026. This will involve a separate Centralized Employment Notification (CEN) and a streamlined examination format, requiring candidates to take only one Computer-Based Test (CBT) followed by a Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT). The changes aim to simplify the recruitment process while ensuring that candidates meet the necessary qualifications. With an estimated 500 vacancies, this new approach is expected to enhance the efficiency of hiring for this critical role in the railway system. Further details regarding eligibility and application procedures will be provided in the official notification.

Introduction to the New Recruitment Process

Beginning in 2026, the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) will implement a new recruitment strategy for Station Master positions, distinct from other NTPC recruitment efforts. A specific Centralized Employment Notification (CEN) will be issued for this role.

Changes in Recruitment Structure

Significant modifications have been introduced to the recruitment framework for individuals aiming to become Station Masters. From 2026, the RRB will conduct Station Master recruitment independently from other NTPC hiring processes, releasing a dedicated CEN. The Railway Board has provided guidelines detailing the updated recruitment system and examination format.

Candidates will now be required to complete only one Computer-Based Test (CBT) instead of the previous two. This will be succeeded by a Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), document verification, and a medical examination.

Previous Recruitment Method

Historically, the recruitment for Station Master roles was part of the NTPC Graduate-level recruitment, necessitating candidates to undertake both CBT-1 and CBT-2. However, with the onset of the 2026 recruitment cycle, a separate notification will be issued specifically for Station Master positions.

The new CEN will outline the number of available positions, application timelines, fees, and the complete examination schedule. Although the exact number of vacancies has yet to be confirmed, estimates suggest there may be over 500 openings, pending the official notification.

Single CBT Requirement

Only One CBT Required Now

Under the revised recruitment process, candidates for the Station Master role will only need to take one CBT. This exam will be scored out of 100 marks and will last for 120 minutes, with a penalty of one-third of a mark for each incorrect answer. Previously, candidates had 90 minutes for CBT-1, followed by a separate CBT-2. The new system simplifies this to a single examination, although those who pass the CBT must still take the CBAT.

Examination Subjects

Subjects Included in the Examination

The new CBT format for Station Master recruitment will feature questions totaling 100 marks, divided into various sections: Basic Science and Mathematics will account for 30 marks, Data Analysis and Interpretation will also contribute 30 marks, while Logical Capability and Mental Reasoning will each carry 20 marks.

Merit List Criteria

Merit List Based on CBT and CBAT Scores

The final merit list for Station Master recruitment will be based on scores from both the CBT and CBAT. The CBT score will have a weightage of 70%, while the CBAT score will contribute 30%. It is essential to qualify in the CBAT to be included in the final merit list. Candidates will be shortlisted for document verification and medical examinations based on this combined merit.

Eligibility Criteria

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for the Station Master position, candidates must possess a graduation degree from a recognized university. The age limit for applicants is set between 20 to 30 years, with age relaxation available for eligible candidates from reserved categories as per Railway regulations. Further details regarding age calculation, cut-off dates, and category-specific relaxations will be provided in a subsequent recruitment notification.
