Agniveer Railway Reservation Initiative

Exciting news has emerged for former Agniveers as the Indian Army collaborates with Indian Railways to facilitate re-employment opportunities. This partnership aims to implement job reservations for various positions, including Level 1 and Level 2 roles.

Job Opportunities for Agniveers

The newly established cooperation framework between Indian Railways and the Indian Army will provide railway job opportunities for retired soldiers and Agniveers. This initiative is designed to assist them in transitioning smoothly into civilian life and employment after their military service.

Recruitment Plans

Reports indicate that the Railway Ministry plans to recruit over 5,000 ex-servicemen as Pointsmen on a contractual basis to address immediate vacancies within the Railways. These temporary roles will remain until the formal recruitment process is finalized.

Recruitment Process Underway

The recruitment efforts for these positions have commenced across various railway zones and divisions nationwide. To date, nine railway divisions have entered into Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with military organizations to streamline the recruitment process.

Reservation Details in Railways

The reservation structure for ex-servicemen in the Railways is as follows:

  • 10% reservation for ex-servicemen in Level 2 and above positions

  • 20% reservation for ex-servicemen in Level 1 (RRB Group D) positions

  • 5% reservation for ex-fire warriors in Level 2 and above positions

  • 10% reservation for ex-fire warriors in Level 1 positions

For the years 2024 and 2025, a total of 14,788 posts have been earmarked for ex-servicemen, including 6,485 at Level 1 and 8,303 at Level 2 and above.

Understanding the Pointsman Role

A Pointsman plays a vital role in the Indian Railways as a ground staff member responsible for directing train tracks (points). They adjust track directions based on instructions from the station master, ensuring the safe movement of trains. Additionally, they assist with shunting operations and perform guard duties.

Reservation in CAPF and Delhi Police

Veterans have previously benefited from reservation policies in services such as the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and Delhi Police. Specifically, a 20% reservation is allocated for constable recruitment in the Delhi Police, and similar provisions exist for former Agniveers in CAPF and Delhi Police recruitment.

Overview of the Agniveer Scheme

The Agniveer Scheme, initiated by the government, recruits young individuals into the military. Launched on June 14, 2022, the Agnipath Scheme allows recruitment into the Army, Navy, and Air Force for a four-year term. After this period, only 25% of Agniveers are offered permanent positions, while the remaining 75% are discharged.
