New ITI Job Training Guidelines for 2026: Enhancing Practical Skills

Overview of ITI Job Training 2026 Guidelines

The government has introduced a pivotal change for ITI students. The Directorate General of Training (DGT) has established a requirement for 150 hours of on-the-job training for trainees enrolled in the Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS). This initiative aims to enhance students' learning experiences by combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills.

Preparing Students for Employment

This on-the-job training will be conducted under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship's Craftsmen Training Scheme. Previously, ITI students primarily received training on campus, which often left gaps in their practical knowledge. The new guidelines aim to bridge this gap, equipping students with essential real-world experience that will better prepare them for future employment.

Impact on ITI Marksheets

In line with the National Education Policy 2020, the DGT has updated the eligibility criteria for CTS. The total annual training duration for ITI graduates has been decreased from 1600 hours to 1200 hours, with the inclusion of 150 hours dedicated to On-the-Job Training (OJT). Students will be permitted to undertake OJT after completing their foundational training.

Moreover, students will have the opportunity to engage in group projects. The 150 hours of OJT will be documented on their marksheets, ensuring that their practical experience is acknowledged in their ITI certification. For those unable to complete OJT, participation in a group project will be mandatory.

Current Recruitment Opportunities for ITI Graduates

Currently, there are apprenticeship opportunities available for ITI graduates within the Railways. The Western Railway has announced openings for 5,349 positions. Interested candidates can submit their applications until 5:00 PM on March 23, 2026. Applicants must be aged between 15 and 24 years. Notably, there will be no written examination; selection will be based on merit and document verification. Additionally, candidates will receive a stipend during their training.
