New Internship Program Launched to Boost Sports Management in India
Introduction to the Internship Initiative
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) has unveiled a significant internship program aimed at enhancing India's sports management framework and inspiring young individuals to pursue careers in the sports industry. This initiative is crafted to involve youth in various administrative, scientific, and strategic dimensions of sports development, positioning India as a formidable player on the global sports stage.
Goals of the Internship Program
The primary objectives of this internship scheme include:
- Encouraging youth involvement in sports administration.
- Developing a skilled workforce for policy formulation and sports advancement.
- Fostering digital skills, innovation, and entrepreneurship within the sports sector.
- Aligning with the objectives of the National Sports Policy and Khelo India Policy 2025.
Participants will gain practical experience with key sports initiatives such as:
- Khelo India
- Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS)
- Target Asian Games Group (TAGG)
Interns will also have the opportunity to work at SAI stadiums, regional centers, and National Centers of Excellence (NCOEs).
Internship Locations
Selected interns will be placed at the Sports Ministry or its affiliated organizations, including:
- Sports Authority of India (SAI)
- National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA)
- National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL)
At NADA, interns will assist with anti-doping awareness and compliance, while those at NDTL will learn advanced laboratory testing methods and scientific support systems for athletes.

- Sports Management & Administration
- Sports Science & Research
- Event Operations
- Media & Communications
- Legal Affairs
- IT Systems & Data Analytics

Each intern will benefit from structured onboarding, mentorship, and collaboration with industry experts.
Eligibility Criteria
The program is open to:
- Undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Preferably those studying Physical Education, Sports Management, Public Policy, Sports Science, or related fields.
This initiative provides a pathway for aspiring professionals aiming for a long-term career in the sports sector.
Selection Process
The selection process involves:
- Application Screening: Evaluating eligibility, educational background, Statement of Purpose (SOP), and No Objection Certificate (if necessary).
- Merit-Based Ranking: Considering marks from Class 10, Class 12, and Graduation, with final selections adhering to MYAS guidelines.
This ensures a transparent and merit-based evaluation process.
Application Timeline
The Sports Ministry will accept applications twice a year, specifically in January and July, through a centralized online platform. This approach aims to facilitate enrollment and ensure equal opportunities for youth nationwide.
Internship Opportunities and Compensation
✔ A total of 452 internships will be available annually.
✔ Each intern will receive a monthly stipend of ₹20,000.
✔ The program is backed by an annual budget of ₹5.30 crore.
