This initiative offers 452 internship positions, providing students with practical experience that complements their academic studies and potentially paves the way for careers in sports-related fields. The Sports Ministry's initiative is particularly beneficial for those aspiring to work in sports administration, science, or policy.
Program Design and Benefits
This internship is tailored specifically for college and university students, allowing them to gain hands-on experience alongside theoretical knowledge. Interns will delve into sports administration, event management, sports science, anti-doping measures, athlete support, and the execution of government initiatives. They will collaborate with seasoned professionals, gaining insights into policy formulation and implementation.
Participating Institutions
Interns will have the chance to work with the Central Sports Ministry and its prominent institutions, including the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), and the National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL). Interns will engage in both office work and field training, gaining experience at stadiums, regional centers, and national centers of excellence to understand the sports ecosystem.
Involvement in National Sports Schemes
A unique aspect of this internship is the opportunity for selected students to engage with major national sports initiatives. Interns will work directly on programs like Khelo India, the Target Olympic Podium Scheme, and the Target Asian Games Group, gaining firsthand experience in managing, monitoring, and coordinating sports programs, thus understanding the implementation of national sports schemes.
Diverse Functional Areas
The internship program encompasses over 20 functional areas, including sports management, administration, sports science, media and communication, IT systems, legal affairs, international sports administration, and anti-doping. Additionally, students will receive training in lab testing, data analysis, and scientific athlete support, enhancing their skills for future endeavors.
Specialized Experience at NADA and NDTL
Interns at the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) will engage in anti-doping awareness initiatives, legal regulations, and case-related tasks, emphasizing the significance of fair play. Meanwhile, those at the National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL) will acquire experience in advanced lab techniques, sample testing, and research, which is particularly advantageous for students pursuing careers in science and research.
Selection Process
The internship selection will be conducted entirely online, occurring in two phases each year, in January and July. Initially, candidates' eligibility and documentation will be verified, followed by the preparation of a merit list based on scores from 10th, 12th, and undergraduate examinations. Final selections will adhere to the guidelines of the respective institutions.
