FMGE December 2025 Updates

FMGE December 2025: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has updated the eligibility requirements for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE). Students who have completed a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from foreign medical institutions, regardless of whether their studies were conducted online or in-person, are now permitted to sit for this examination. This adjustment is applicable to those who enrolled prior to the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations (FMGL) notification dated November 18, 2021.

On December 7, the NMC announced that students enrolled in BS programs at foreign medical institutions before the FMGL notification are now eligible for the FMGE. Previously, eligibility was restricted to students who attended classes in a traditional offline setting. The NMC clarified that all students pursuing BS degrees in foreign medical institutions, whether through online or physical attendance, must pass the FMGE to register for medical practice in India. This modification aims to provide all students with the opportunity to validate their medical knowledge and skills.

Internship Requirements
While the revised eligibility criteria benefit many students, they also introduce additional internship obligations. Students in BS programs who qualify for this one-time exemption will need to complete an extra year of internship in India. Conversely, foreign medical graduates with an MBBS or equivalent degree must fulfill a two-year internship requirement. The NMC highlighted that these internship stipulations align with current regulations to ensure sufficient clinical experience and uphold consistent standards in medical education and practice.

FMGE Exam Schedule
The FMGE is set to take place on January 17, 2026, across 67 cities in India, offering a vital opportunity for eligible candidates to enter the medical field. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has already distributed the FMGE exam city slips for the upcoming session, ensuring that all registered candidates are informed about their examination locations.
