NEET PG 2026: New Regulations Enhance Exam Security and Convenience

Introduction to NEET PG 2026 Changes



The Union Health Ministry has introduced significant changes to the NEET PG 2026 examination process, aiming to enhance security, transparency, and convenience for candidates.


Key Changes for NEET PG 2026

For the upcoming NEET PG 2026, scheduled for August 30, 2026, the Union Health Ministry has implemented new regulations to ensure a fair and technology-driven examination. Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda emphasized the importance of transparency during a review of the preparations with the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) and other relevant agencies. This year, 2,73,183 candidates have registered, reflecting a 12.5% increase from the previous year.


Closer Exam Centers

A major improvement is the new exam center allocation system. Previously, centers were assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, often requiring late applicants to travel to distant states. Now, candidates can choose three preferred states for their exam center, with their home state as the first choice, increasing the chances of being assigned a center nearby.


Advance Notification of Exam City

Candidates will receive information about their exam city approximately three weeks before the exam, allowing ample time for travel and accommodation arrangements, a significant improvement from the previous last-minute notifications.


Updated Exam Format

The NBEMS has revised the exam format to include 180 multiple-choice questions, with a total duration of 210 minutes. This change reduces the number of questions from 200, providing candidates with more time per question while keeping the overall exam duration the same.


Single Shift Examination

Unlike previous years where the exam was conducted in two shifts, NEET PG 2026 will be held in a single shift, ensuring uniformity in question difficulty across all candidates.


Enhanced Security Measures

Security protocols have been significantly strengthened. Aadhaar-based verification will be implemented throughout the examination process. If fingerprint verification fails, an iris biometric system will be utilized. Additionally, advanced security measures, including multi-level encryption and secure offline preparation of question papers, have been established to prevent leaks.


Vigilance Against Malpractices

The NBEMS has set up a dedicated email for reporting cheating or impersonation. Over 1,300 centers across approximately 340 cities will host the NEET PG 2026 exam, with more than 60,000 personnel overseeing the process. Security measures such as CCTV surveillance, biometric checks, and live monitoring will be in place to maintain integrity during the examination.
