Eligibility Criteria

Who is eligible to apply?


Candidates must be Indian citizens or OCI cardholders. Foreign nationals are also permitted to apply for the FPIS course. Applicants should hold a recognized postgraduate degree such as MD, MS, DM, MCh, DNB, or DRNB relevant to the fellowship they wish to pursue.


It is essential for applicants to be registered with the National Medical Commission (NMC) or a State Medical Council, either permanently or temporarily. This registration must be presented during the admission or counseling process. Additionally, candidates must have received their degree or passing certificate by the specified cut-off date to qualify for application.


Fellowship Stipend and Training

The fellowship provides a monthly stipend ranging from approximately Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 1.25 lakh, subject to adjustments according to NBEMS regulations.


The training duration is typically two years, conducted on a full-time basis. During this period, candidates will engage in hospital work, attend classes, maintain logbooks, and participate in regular assessments. A final examination will be held at the end of the training, and successful candidates will receive a fellowship certificate.


Exam Pattern

What is the exam format?


The NBEMS Fellowship Entrance Test will be administered as a computer-based exam lasting 1 hour and 45 minutes. It will feature multiple-choice questions (MCQs), with the total number ranging from approximately 100 to 120, depending on the subject area. Each correct response will earn 4 marks, while 1 mark will be deducted for incorrect answers.


The syllabus for the exam will align with the relevant broad specialty and the selected super-specialty. To qualify for counseling, candidates must achieve at least the 50th percentile in their respective specialty.
