Nalanda University Becomes Nodal Center for ISRO

The renowned Nalanda University in Bihar has been appointed as a new nodal center for the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), which operates under the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). This collaboration will enable students from various disciplines at the university to enroll in specialized online courses focused on advanced topics such as remote sensing, space technology, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Remarkably, these vital courses will be offered to students at no cost.

**Engagement with Modern Technology**

A press release from the university on Tuesday highlighted that students from all academic backgrounds will have the chance to engage with contemporary technologies through the IIRS-ISRO Distance Learning Programme (DLP). Importantly, participation is open to all departments, allowing a diverse range of students to apply for these courses.

**Provision of Study Materials**

As part of this initiative, students will receive study materials and will have access to live, interactive online classes through ISRO’s e-class platform. This setup will facilitate learning in areas such as space science, Earth resource assessment, and geographical data analysis.

The university has indicated that information regarding the courses available in 2026, including their duration and schedules, can be found in the official IIRS-ISRO course calendar. Students interested in enrolling through the Nalanda University nodal center should reach out to Professor Deepak Kumar from the School of Ecology and Environment Studies for registration approval and further details. He has been appointed as the program's coordinator.

**Enhancing Skills and Research Opportunities**

The university's administration is optimistic that this partnership will equip students with advanced technical knowledge while they pursue their traditional academic studies. This initiative is anticipated to promote skill development and improve research capabilities. It represents a significant advancement in interdisciplinary education, research, and knowledge exchange at Nalanda University. Furthermore, by participating in a program offered by a prestigious organization like ISRO, students will enhance their understanding of space science and modern geospatial technologies.
