IGNOU: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has unveiled a Master of Science (MSc) program focused on Climate Change, marking a significant milestone as it claims to be the first institution in India to offer such a specialized degree.

The university emphasizes that climate change is increasingly affecting ecosystems, economies, and human health across the globe. The program is designed to equip students with a thorough understanding of climate science, risk assessment, adaptation and mitigation techniques, environmental governance, and sustainable development practices.
**Curriculum Overview**
As per IGNOU's announcement, the two-year curriculum encompasses a variety of subjects including climate science, risk management, adaptation and mitigation strategies, governance of environmental issues, sustainable development, water resource management, energy systems, agricultural practices, disaster risk management, biodiversity preservation, waste management, circular economy principles, health considerations, ecosystem restoration, and environmental legislation.
The program is led by Dr. V. Venkatramanan and Prof. Shachi Shah, both of whom bring extensive academic and research expertise in environmental studies, sustainability, and climate change.
**Enrollment Details**
Graduates from any field are welcome to apply for this program, which consists of 80 credits. Those who successfully complete the first year will have the opportunity to earn a Post Graduate Diploma in Climate Change.
**Tuition Fee: ₹8,000**
The total fee for the course is ₹8,000, with additional charges for enrollment and development. The course will be taught in English.
