New Delhi: For many young aspirants, passing the UPSC exam is a cherished dream, yet the path in administration can be fraught with challenges. IAS officer Neha Marvya Singh exemplifies this reality. She secured an all-India rank of 100 in the 2010 civil services examination and was appointed as an officer in the Madhya Pradesh cadre. After a lengthy career spanning nearly 14 years, she was designated as the collector of Dindori in January 2025.

Currently, Neha Marvya Singh is making headlines again, not for a new achievement, but due to her frequent transfers. Upon seeing her name on the transfer list dated September 5, she expressed her concerns. She noted that this marks the fourth transfer within a single year, a point she raised in a message to the Madhya Pradesh IAS Officers Association.
Choosing Civil Services After Engineering
Neha Marvya Singh completed her B.Tech in Computer Science from Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad. After finishing her engineering studies, she began preparing for the civil services examination. Her hard work paid off in 2010 when she achieved an all-India rank of 100 in the UPSC CSE, scoring a total of 1224 marks. Following this, she was allocated to the Madhya Pradesh cadre and became an IAS officer of the 2011 batch.
Collector Role After 14 Years
Since becoming an IAS officer, Neha Marvya Singh has held various administrative roles in Madhya Pradesh. According to government records, she has served as Deputy Secretary and later as Additional Secretary in the Revenue Department. However, it took a long time for her to receive the responsibility of a collector. She was appointed as the collector of Dindori on January 29, 2025, with her term set to last until October 2, 2025, as per the official district administration website.
Frequent Transfers in a Year
In September 2026, the issue of Neha Marvya Singh's frequent transfers came to light. She revealed that this is her fourth transfer within a year, with her previous posting lasting only 50 days. Upon seeing her name on the September 5 transfer list, she expressed her frustration, stating that she was transferred just 50 days after joining her last position.
From UPSC Success to Transfer Challenges
Neha's story reflects both the significant achievement of passing the UPSC and the pressures of constantly changing postings. Starting with her AIR 100 in 2010 and becoming an IAS officer in 2011, she finally received the collector's role after 14 years. However, her recent comments regarding the frequent transfers have once again brought her administrative career into the limelight.
