The Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has sanctioned this 78% salary hike for job trainee medical officers (specialists). Previously, these doctors earned ₹33,660 monthly, but the new salary structure will provide them with ₹60,000. This initiative is part of the government's strategy to mitigate the shortage of medical professionals in public healthcare facilities.


Job trainee medical officer specialists are those who have completed their postgraduate degrees, such as MD, MS, or DNB, and are currently training in government hospitals. Their expertise sets them apart from general medical officers.


Previous Salary and Reasons for Increase


The prior salary for trainee specialist doctors was adjusted in 2022 following the 6th Pay Commission recommendations, which raised their pay by about 24%, from ₹27,000 to ₹33,660. Despite this increase, many doctors expressed dissatisfaction, leading to a reluctance to work in government hospitals, especially in remote areas. The government has now taken this step to address the ongoing shortage of healthcare professionals.
