New Guidelines for Student Video Creation

Gorakhpur University has swiftly revised its policy regarding students creating Reels and videos on campus, just a day after the initial ban. The updated directive emphasizes that while students are encouraged to express their creativity, they must adhere to standards of decorum and propriety.

Initially, on Sunday, the university's administration had prohibited students from producing any Reels or videos without prior approval, warning of disciplinary actions for violations. However, by Monday, the administration clarified that the intent was not to suppress creativity.

The new guidelines allow students to create digital content, provided they are considerate about language, themes, and overall decency.

Details of the Initial Ban

The original order from the Proctor explicitly forbade students from making videos or Reels on campus and mandated that any student wishing to do so must seek permission from the administration. Violations would lead to consequences based on the severity of the infraction. This directive sparked backlash among students and faculty alike, prompting the administration to reassess its stance.

University's Shift in Policy

In the revised order, the university expressed its commitment to fostering a creative environment for students, aligning with the government's initiative for the 'Orange Economy' and the creative sector. Therefore, the university stresses the importance of maintaining discipline and responsibility in digital content creation.

Updated Code of Conduct

Gorakhpur University has also revised its code of conduct to include regulations on digital content creation. A committee was formed to review and recommend changes, resulting in new rules that govern photography, video creation, and social media postings. These amendments are effective immediately, and Dr. Ved Prakash Rai, the Additional Proctor, has ensured that hostel wardens and faculty are briefed on the new regulations to inform students about the updated policies and potential repercussions for non-compliance.
