The escalating temperatures and severe heatwaves in the Delhi-NCR region are starting to affect everyday activities for residents. The harsh afternoon sun poses particular risks for young children. In response to these conditions, the Ghaziabad district authorities have made a crucial decision to adjust school hours, aiming to protect students from the extreme heat. This change is designed for children from Nursery to Class 8, ensuring they avoid the discomfort of traveling home during the hottest part of the day, thereby safeguarding their health.
Administration's Response to Rising Temperatures
With temperatures in Delhi-NCR on the rise, the severity of the heatwave has increased. Prolonged exposure to the sun can have harmful effects on children's health. In light of this, the Ghaziabad administration has opted to revise school timings.
New School Schedule Starting April 27
As per the directive from District Basic Education Officer O.P. Yadav, starting April 27, 2026, all schools will operate from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM. This schedule will remain in effect until further notice, with the primary aim of protecting children from the intense afternoon heat.
Benefits for Young Learners
This adjustment will greatly benefit children in Nursery through Class 8, as they will no longer need to travel home during the sweltering afternoon hours, thus minimizing the risk of heat-related illnesses.
Uniform Application of the Order
The administration's order applies to all educational institutions within the district. This includes schools under the Basic Education Council, government-aided and recognized institutions, as well as those affiliated with CBSE, ICSE, and other educational boards.
