Agniveer Retirement Timeline

The 'Agnipath Scheme,' initiated in June 2022, is approaching a pivotal moment. The inaugural group of over 18,300 Agniveers, who enlisted in the armed forces, will conclude their four-year service by December 31, 2026. The Navy, Air Force, and Army are preparing to discharge around 75% of these Agniveers starting November 15, with the process unfolding in multiple phases.

Transitioning to Civilian Life

A pressing question arises: what lies ahead for these Agniveers after their dedicated service? Fortunately, those retiring this year can find solace in the fact that both the Central and state governments have established specific policies and reservation quotas aimed at facilitating their transition into civilian roles and securing permanent government jobs.

Reservation in CAPF and Assam Rifles

To assist retiring Agniveers, the Central government has introduced reservation quotas for recruitment into the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and the Assam Rifles.

Direct Quota: Former Agniveers will benefit from a 50% reservation in direct recruitment for Constable (General Duty) and Rifleman positions.

Exemption from Examinations: They will be exempt from written tests, Physical Standard Tests (PST), and Physical Efficiency Tests (PET), leveraging the training they received during military service.

Opportunities in State Police and Other Departments

Various states and union territories are also preparing to integrate 'Agniveers' into their workforce:

Chandigarh Administration: A 20% horizontal reservation has been approved for former Agniveers in Chandigarh Police constable recruitment, as well as in the Prisons Department, Fire Service, and Forest Department.

State Police and Railways: Numerous major states have allocated a quota of 10% to 20% for Agniveers in police recruitment, along with reserved positions in the Indian Railways, Indian Coast Guard, and 16 Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs).

Financial Support and Experience

Upon completing their four-year service, Agniveers will enter civilian life not only with discipline but also with financial backing:

Lump-sum Financial Assistance: Upon exit, Agniveers will receive a one-time 'Sevanidhi' package, approximately ₹11.71 lakh plus interest, which is entirely tax-exempt.

Self-Employment and Startups: This fund can be utilized for higher education, starting a business, or acquiring professional skills.

Corporate Sector Opportunities

For those opting out of government roles, the corporate sector presents promising career options:

Private Security and Logistics: Major corporations, the aviation industry, and private security firms have committed to prioritizing former Agniveers for supervisory and management positions.

Skill Certification: Each Agniveer will receive a skill certificate upon service completion, validating their qualifications for both domestic and international job markets.
