Berhampur: A 45-year-old individual has been apprehended in Ganjam district, Odisha, for allegedly deceiving approximately 500 job seekers by promising employment opportunities in Singapore, according to police reports from Thursday.
The suspect, Subrat Kumar Palo, a resident of Hillpatna, was taken into custody on Wednesday following a complaint filed at the Berhampur Sadar police station.
Authorities confiscated two mobile devices, photocopies of airline tickets, fabricated work permits for Singapore, health check-up certificates from a Chennai diagnostic center, and counterfeit appointment letters from a shipping firm.
Investigations revealed that Palo, in collaboration with another accomplice, established a job consultancy and training center in Bhabinipur, promoting their services through posters and leaflets to attract job seekers with the promise of lucrative positions in Singapore.
It is reported that the duo has swindled around 500 individuals, collecting Rs 30,000 from each victim.
Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M disclosed that Palo is also implicated in three additional fraud cases, including one registered at the Vizianagaram rural police station in Andhra Pradesh on March 6, 2024.
The other two cases were filed at the Berhampur town police station in August 2009 and at the Tikabali police station in Kandhamal in July 2017.
